Just a ‘heads up’ on a few models that we previously sold but have since discontinued due to quality issues.
update April 2024 – Cooroy v1 – batch glue issue with 22mm – we are testing and should be able to make Cooroy v1 available again soon so stay tuned.
The biggest problem with any leather strap is breaking at the lug. Possibly due to over tightening the buckle when fastening to wrist – see Rob’s fitting guide here.
We should actually note that the smaller the lug width the more likely to break. Less stitching, less glue when under 16mm. Most of our returns for warranty claims have been for straps 14mm, 12mm and 10mm. Probably the reason that leather strap size 16mm and under are starting to become very hard to come by.
On less expensive straps, leather is folded over on top of the underside then glued and stitched. On improved models (reflected in the price) for example ‘Coolum‘, the outer leather is wrapped around at the lug and glued, then the underside is glued and stitched on top. This process of manufacturing the strap is much stronger at the lug effectively doubling the strength.
Price does reflect quality, however @ Leather Straps, the more straps from a particular model sold means we can lower the price for our customers and therefore very good (and popular) straps may have a low price. This low price should not be confused with quality.
