Straps clasps. buckles etc Questions

Yes! We thoroughly test our strap models by wearing for a period of time in ‘real World’ situations before releasing. When satisfied of the quality we then make the new strap model available for purchase. Always beware of inferior straps that look similar to ours.

Yes! All of our leather straps include spring bars and strap removal tool. The quick release straps that have in-built spring bars also come with a pair of standard spring bars (good if you would like to put a bracelet back on your watch for instance)

Wrong size strap. Check your watch lug size and make sure strap you are wanting to purchase is exactly the same lug width as your watch. Note: Not all straps are even sizes. Around 40% of all watches have odd size lugs for example 17mm, 19mm, 21mm, 23mm. You should not assume that your watch lug is, for example, 20mm when it could be 21mm or 19mm. A;lways search online for your watch model or measure your watch ‘lug width’ with a precision measuring device /Vernier Calipers.

You are trying to fit the wrong size strap to your watch (see previous question). Measure your watch lug width with Vernier calipers NOT a ruler or search for your watch lug width online. ‘Lug Width’ should be exact size to the Millimetre.

No! Leather will start to break down when it gets wet and stays wet for extended periods. You should try to avoid showering or swimming whilst wearing your leather strap.
Allowing to dry to a damp state then applying leather conditioner is one way of preserving your leather watch strap. Best to not get it wet in the first place. Note: you will void any warranty if your leather strap gets wet. We would also advise you not to swim whilst wearing a watch even if it says it is waterproof.

Not tight at all. You should be able to slide a little finger or index finger in between your wrist and strap. Leaving a gap will be more comfortable throughout the day and the strap will last longer because leaving a small gap won’t stretch the leather when fitting and removing. If you are someone that likes a tight strap then opt for a clasp instead of a buckle. A clasp doesn’t require tightening the strap to remove. See Rob’s fitting guide for more information.

Yes you can. Apple strap adapters with spring bars to suit any 22mm lug width strap that we stock are available after you add a strap to cart.

Yes you can but you will void any warranty if you do so. First see if there is enough room to pull spring bar ball back and remove one end of spring bar through lever elongated hole. Be aware that  you may damage the strap if you force it.  Another alternative method is to cut the ball lever off the quick release spring bar with a SHARP pair of small side cutter pliers.
Note: one of the main reasons customers ask us if they can remove quick release spring bars is because they are trying to fit a strap say for example 20mm to a 19mm watch and the quick release does not fit. Check the size of your watch lug and order correct size strap and you will not have any problems with quick release fitting properly.

Depends. All of our strap clasps and buckles are fitted using spring bars. Most straps taper by 2mm’s. Some do not taper at all and others may taper more than 2mm’s. Measure your clasp or buckle and make sure it matches the buckle end of one of our straps or see your jeweller or manufacturer for size information first.
Note: buckles cannot be fitted to straps with clasps without punching a buckle prong slot.

Take it out of the plastic packaging and let it breathe. We store items in plastic and also the packaging designed to protect your strap whilst in transit is usually made of plastic. Leather is naturally absorbent. Simply remove from the plastic packaging and any plastic type smell will dissipate within a day or two.

Of course. Perhaps you have a small or large wrist and find it difficult to thread strap through the first keeper / fixed keeper. Cutting the keeper in half, on the edge or completely off could be helpful in this situation for example. Large wrists may also not even need the second keeper and can simply slide the second keeper off over the lug end.

As of 3/2020 we are no longer making leather straps or offering any custom work including retail watch repairs or servicing. This may change again sometime in the future. We will let you know here if we start doing custom work and  servicing again.

1. Original version straps and not the copies /knock-offs that you may find at the large foreign owned ‘shopping’ sites. As always, beware of inferior straps purporting to be the same as ours.
2. Simple packaging. We asked our customers via a survey about whether packaging is a deal breaker. The vast majority did not want or need fancy boxes or containers just cheaper prices for high quality leather watch straps.

Clasps can be a bit confusing if you haven’t used one before.
1. Start by flipping up the oval side of clip to access the prong to fit strap to your wrist size.
2. Once you have attached prong to hole /size that best suits your wrist, close the clip down to lock. You won’t need to access this again.
3, Fit over wrist.
4. Close clasp on short piece side of strap and lock it into place.
5. Finsh closing clasp by threading hole peice of strap through strap keepers and lock into place.
6. Remove watch from wrist by pressing outer buttons on butterfly clasp.
Tip: always close clasp on short strap piece first followed by hole piece.

To remove clasp – using punch end of tool provided with your strap push through spring bar hole on outer edge of clasp to compress the spring bar.
Same procedure as above with buckle removal if the buckle has a spring bar hole on outside edge of buckle.
If buckle does not have hole on outer edge then you will need to use the spring bar end of removal tool and fit between strap and buckle and compress spring bar away and out of buckle.
Tip: always look on outer edge of clasp or buckle for small hole to aid in removal. You have much less chance of scratching your watch and /or damaging the strap using the access hole (if present).

Yes you can fit a clasp to any strap with a buckle. A clasp only strap will need a buckle prong slot cut if you intend to fit a buckle.
Look in ‘Description’ section under images at listing page to find size of buckle /clasp end of strap before purchasing a clasp (or buckle)
Add strap to cart > navigate to accessories > add correct size clasp to suit your strap to cart. A check box will appear asking if you would like us to fit clasp to purchased strap or not. Proceed to checkout.

Although less leather, generally the smaller the strap the harder to make therefore cost is the same. For example the stitching can be more difficult on a small width strap. Also, small buckles have become harder to source since 2019. A 12mm buckle to fit your 14mm strap may cost more than the 20mm buckle fitted to a 22mm width strap so the overall cost balances out.
